Map scales

Map TV map materials are generated from JS Baltija program map, which, in the server versio, is updated at least once a year. Map server contains the following maps:

  • Plans of Tallinn, all towns of Latvia and plans of the biggest towns in Lithuania in scale from 1:7 000 to 1:25 000.
  • 16 Latvian district maps in scale 1:100 000 and particular territory maps.
  • Road map of Latvia and Lithuania in scale 1:200 000.
  • Baltic overview maps in scale from 1:500 000 to 1:2 000 000.
  • Europe overview map in scale 1:3 500 000.



    Database search engine

    Map TV has an option of object search entering its name in the search engine. Standard model allows searching for:

  • administrative divisions,
  • towns,
  • villages,
  • streets of towns in Latvia.



    Map navigation

  • Map movement using arrows for 2/5 of map’s screen.
  • „Hand” for map movement in the needed direction and to the needed distance.
  • Marking tool for the region to be zoomed in.
  • Map centering tool.
  • Zooming in and zooming out.



    Option of displaying your own database

    Customers can display their own object data base on the map. Objects should be linked to coordinates in LKS-92 coordinate system. It is possible to add an icon for its displaying on the map, add a link for more information and short descriptive information, which appears in the flouting window moving cursor of the mouse over the chosen object.



    Technical description

    Map TV user’s interface is set up in HTML and JavaScript programming language. Particular language base is chosen, because it is supported by most of the internet browsers. Map TV system uses AJAX technologies, which significantly reduces user’s network load, thus speeding up system operation.

    Map TV operates using the following internet browsers:

  • Internet Explorer,
  • Mozilla Firefox,
  • Opera,
  • Safari.

    There is a possibility to integrate Map TV into internet in two ways:

  • Using HTML tag IFRAME, which has a specially created link to Jāņa sēta’s server as a source indicated. Such solution is provided for cases when Map TV does not need any additional functionality, for instance, search in customer’s data base. This solution provides only visual modifications.

  • Direct integration into internet page using Map TV customer’s server section, which is basically created in PHP programming language, though available also in ASP language. Customer’s server section operates more like proxy server, which transfers user’s applications via customer’s server to Jāņa sēta server. This solution provides customer with more control over Map TV system and offers an option of adding his own functionality, for instance, search in his data base and dynamic object display on the map, indicating object’s icon, description (displays as the cursor is moved over the object), and link if necessary, which will open by clicking on the object.
