The author\u2019s goal is to present the history, architecture, and art of 572 Latvian manors in a concentrated and structured manner across a five-volume encyclopedia, based on an extensive archive of manor research materials and photographic documentation.<\/p>\n
The fifth volume of the encyclopedia covers 83 manors in alphabetical order, from the letter T to Z. Each entry begins with the manor\u2019s location and an economic overview, followed by a concise history of ownership, highlighting the manor\u2019s origins and eventual decline. This is followed by the construction history of the manor house or palace, and a description of the utility building complex and park. Both Latvian and German are used for image identification. At the end of the volume, readers will find a list of abbreviations used in image captions, as well as cited sources and literature.<\/p>\n
This volume also includes a complete index of all manors (A\u2013Z) featured across all five volumes of the encyclopedia. The fifth volume maintains the administrative territorial division of Latvia as it existed prior to the 2021 reform.<\/p>\n
New feature<\/strong> \u2013 the encyclopedia now includes a detachable map showing the locations of all 572 manors featured across the five volumes.<\/p>\n Photographer and cultural heritage researcher Vitolds Ma\u0161novskis has conducted documentary photographic work and research on approximately 1,200 manor complexes in Latvia.
