Aprašymas
Creating the scratch-off poster “Birds at the Feeders” involved selecting 23 species commonly found in Latvia, particularly those most frequently seen at bird feeders. We encourage you to observe birds at feeders, identify them, and reveal them on the poster. Some bird species might appear on the first day, while others require patient observation.
The illustrations were created by artist Marta Gotlība, emphasizing the birds’ most distinctive features in nature.
Winter is an excellent time to start birdwatching because the number of bird species present is significantly smaller. Many of those that remain near us tend to stay close to human settlements, often near backyard feeders.
In total, 375 bird species have been recorded in Latvia. Around 100 of these regularly winter here, but only a small portion are easily observed near human homes and feeders in winter. Most of these can be found on the scratch-off poster.
The “Birds at the Feeders” scratch-off poster was created in collaboration with the Latvian Ornithological Society.
