Aprašymas
The book “At the posts in August. Journalists remember” brings together recollections by Latvian press, radio, television and film professionals, as well as members of parliament and others involved in the events, about the August 1991 coup attempt.
The book continues the story begun in the publication “At the posts in August. Journalists remember”, dedicated to the January 1991 Barricades, about the role of the media in restoring Latvia’s independence. It tells of the flight of freedom of expression, won only moments before. Of journalists’ creativity and resourcefulness. Of yet another awakening of the nation’s “free spirit.”
“The main thing is to overcome within ourselves the grey, submissive state of mind of Latvians, in which we have become accustomed to reconciling ourselves to a dying song in a foreign world.” Pēteris Laķis, “Nolemtība” Latvija, 1991.
