Aprašymas

This edition includes a special section titled “With a map in nature” featuring the best nature trails in each of Latvia’s four regions – Zemgale, Kurzeme, Latgale, and Vidzeme – with more than 60 trails in total. This type of comprehensive overview is a first, created in collaboration with experts from the outdoor portal dodies.lv. When selecting trails, various criteria were taken into account: scenic and educational value, geographic location, quality of infrastructure, and more.

Each trail comes with a detailed description, map, photos, and essential information: trail length, estimated hiking time, surface type, difficulty level, whether the trail is marked in nature, availability of rest and fire pit areas, and accessibility for bicycles, strollers, and wheelchairs.

A new feature for cyclists is the inclusion of officially marked cycling routes with numbering. These routes are marked in nature with a blue sign showing a white bicycle symbol and route number. These same numbers now appear on the maps, and each edition includes a list of numbered cycling routes relevant to the region it covers.

Water tourism enthusiasts will also benefit from updated and expanded river distance data – including both existing and newly added routes.

The editions were developed in cooperation with JSC “Latvijas valsts meži”, which manages and maintains many of the nature trails featured in the guide. In addition, Latvijas valsts meži maintains over 350 Mammadaba recreational sites across Latvia, offering everyone free access to enjoy nature and the beauty of the forest.

The first volume in the four-part series “With a Map in Nature” was released in 2014. It served as a logical continuation of the Great Latvian Atlas, adapting the extensive atlas content for safe and convenient outdoor use, even in challenging weather and terrain conditions. The core of each edition is a detailed map of Latvia at a scale of 1:100,000 (1 cm on the map equals 1 km in nature). Each page is laminated, making it more resistant to moisture and wear from active use, while the spiral binding allows for easy page-turning in the field. With growing interest in outdoor activities, the series has been updated and expanded this year.

The key advantage of these editions is their practical functionality in real terrain – whether on the road, on water, or in the forest. Unlike digital navigation devices, smartphones, or tablets, these maps are more readable, more detailed, and can be used in all conditions, regardless of battery life or internet accessibility.

Take a map and dive into nature!
