Description
The author’s goal is to present the history, architecture, and art of 572 Latvian manors in a concentrated and structured manner across a five-volume encyclopedia, based on an extensive archive of manor research materials and photographic documentation.
The fifth volume of the encyclopedia covers 83 manors in alphabetical order, from the letter T to Z. Each entry begins with the manor’s location and an economic overview, followed by a concise history of ownership, highlighting the manor’s origins and eventual decline. This is followed by the construction history of the manor house or palace, and a description of the utility building complex and park. Both Latvian and German are used for image identification. At the end of the volume, readers will find a list of abbreviations used in image captions, as well as cited sources and literature.
This volume also includes a complete index of all manors (A–Z) featured across all five volumes of the encyclopedia. The fifth volume maintains the administrative territorial division of Latvia as it existed prior to the 2021 reform.
New feature – the encyclopedia now includes a detachable map showing the locations of all 572 manors featured across the five volumes.
Photographer and cultural heritage researcher Vitolds Mašnovskis has conducted documentary photographic work and research on approximately 1,200 manor complexes in Latvia. The “Manors in Latvia” multi-volume encyclopedia was created as a tribute to the centenary of Latvia, and it was during this milestone year that the first volume was finally published in tangible form.
